Backhaus is hiring for a combined dishwasher/line cook position for our talented team at our Burlingame Location. We are a group of passionate and driven bakers, baristas, cooks and lovers of hospitality, intent on changing the idea of what people believe a full-service bakery can be. We are excited for our kitchen program to continue to grow and provide new offerings to our community with nourishing craveable creations that focus on European cuisine and that compliment our baked goods with breakfast/brunch and lunch items six days a week.

You will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth and efficient operations of our kitchen. On days that you are working a line cook shift, you will be responsible for preparing and cooking a variety of menu items while maintaining the highest standards of food quality and presentation. On other days you will be responsible for supporting our team of dishwashers. The ideal candidate will have some experience as a dishwasher, a passion for culinary arts, an interest in food that is local, sustainable and seasonal wherever possible, some cooking skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced and collaborative kitchen environment.

Monday Off
Tuesday Off
Wednesday - Line cook 7am-3:30pm
Thursday - Dish 6am-2:30pm
Friday - Dish 8am-4:30pm
Saturday - Line cook 7am-3:30pm
Sunday - 8am-4:30pm

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
Working alongside the kitchen team on prep and menu production, assisting others with duties if needed
Communicating suggestions for improvement
Mise-en-place and other menu prep;
Station set-up and break-down;
Ability to work cleanly - clean-as-you-go and end-of-shift clean-up;
Kitchen organization, including condition of walk-ins and storage;
Adherence to food safety and sanitation standards;
Maintaining a clean and organized dish and sink area throughout the day.
Washing, sanitizing, and drying dishes as needed.
Restocking and organizing clean dishes at proper stations.
Taking out trash.
Cleaning and organizing storage areas, including walk-in refrigerator, freezer, walk-in proofer and other equipment as needed - we will train maintenance on appropriate equipment.
Refilling kitchen chemicals as needed.
Communicating with leadership when additional cleaning supplies and/or equipment is needed.
Bussing tables and helping to maintain a clean café space as needed.
Adhere to sanitation standards, practicing clean-as-you-go work habits.
Follow all food safety standards and keep food products free from contaminants that may cause injury or disease.
Maintaining a high awareness of personal safety and safety of others - especially with knives and other sharp objects, electrically operated equipment, spills on floors, hazardous products, and blind spots.
Completing breakdown of station efficiently: storing product correctly, cleaning station, following proper dish room procedures, and maintaining overall kitchen organization.
Must be punctual and present for all scheduled shifts.
Completing other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Daily tasks include, but are not limited to:
Station set-up and break-down.
Ability to work cleanly and efficiently - clean-as-you-go and end-of-shift clean-up.
Kitchen organization, including condition of walk-ins, storage and floors.
Light kitchen food prep.
Adherence to food safety and sanitation standards.
End-of-day sweeping and mopping of kitchen floors.
QUALIFICATIONS
1+ years experience in a kitchen or restaurant setting as a line cook or dishwasher
Excellent communication and team working skills
Conversational English skills (Required)
Must be authorized to work in the United States (Required)
